The law

In my opinion there is a lot wrong with the law. Without going into everything I feel is wrong with it I'd like to cover what I think is most importantly wrong with it. I believe that sentences are more severe for crimes against money than they are for crimes against people.

When sitting in the cinema yesterday, before the film started we were presented with a copyright notice. This notice informed me that if I recorded the film I could face a fine of up to £2,000 and up to 10 years in prison. In my opinion this is far too severe! It seems to me that any offence that disrupts the balance of wealth is severly punishable (such as robbing a bank) whereas many offenses against people are less severly punishable (mugging a person).

I would like to see this balance reversed. An armed robbery is always a serious offense because someone might be killed, but actually killing someone is in my opinion the worst crime a person may commit. It is time we started to protect the vunerable rather than wealth!
