Nationalisation

Everyone needs energy, everyone needs food, and everyone needs water. So why are people allowed to profit from our basic needs?

Anything determined to be a minimum requirement for life should be state operated. This includes the major forms of energy (gas and electricity), and obviously water. With regards to resources that are charged per unit (gas, electricity) each household should have a weekly allowance of free energy, the amount should be sufficient to heat the home and prepare food. Any consumption above this allowance would be charged, but at an affordable price. In the case of food each person should have a weekly allowance of healthy food (such as fruit and vegetables.) Any consumption above these levels would be considered pleasurable consumption and be charged as normal.

Infrastructure dependencies should also be state owned, specifically trains and buses. Use of trains (including the underground) and buses should be free for commuting to and from work, or at least heavily subsidised. Travel for pleasure should be charged differently. Providing free or inexpensive occupational travel would prove cheaper than travelling privately, encouraging people to share transport and have a smaller impact on the environment. Again any travel that is not a necessity would be considered pleasure and be charged as normal.
